Marie-Christine Pavone's charming galalith jewelry is made in France from one of the earliest processed plastics. Each piece is cut by hand and polished for days in a rotating drum, then dyed and polished by hand to achieve its unique color and finish. While sometimes referred to as French bakelite, galalith, which is milk-based, as opposed to chemically based, is actually is heavier than bakelite and has a much more polished finish.
